1 Aug 2024 - Visit from Brad & Beth Herren - Military Comrade from the 1970's in Maine

Today our friends Brad and Beth Herren from Big Canoe GA drove up to see us.  They have a large Class A RV but plans changed and they have it up for sale.  So they switched to hotel accommodations and still made the trip as planned.  Brad and I served together at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone Maine in the mid-70's.

Our going-away party in March 1977 at our site.  There was a like-flag that said "Georgia or Bust"

We've seen Brad and Beth quite a few times in past years, most recently in Chattanooga TN last year at an RV park.  When we were lucky we would intersect with them as they traveled with their RV and we traveled with ours.

As we waited for Brad and Beth's arrival, Doreen walked Liberty and watched as a band set-up at the property next to us.  Later we would see why.

This afternoon Brad and Beth arrived and we had some great conversations reconnecting at our campground.  Brad brought me some of "Georgia's Finest", a wine named "Ed" and a couple of some very smooth bourbon's!  Of course we had to sample one of the bourbons and it did not disappoint.

Later we headed out to eat at a local Italian restaurant and the conversations continued.  So this summer Doreen and I have reconnected with a great number of our friends / military comrades from our time in northern Maine.

Following our dinner we cruised downtown Asheville a bit and then headed back to the campground to say our goodbyes.  The area where they were setting up for a band was rocking!  The event going on here and at multiple other locations in Ashville is from 1-4 Aug and is called AVL Fest.  It involves many different bands and performers and they will be playing through the weekend.  After Brad and Beth headed back to the hotel, Doreen and I walked Liberty down to the area and there was a huge crowd.

Doreen and I will be here through the weekend and we will explore some other areas of Asheville in the next few days.
