7 Aug 2024 - Lunch at Bea's Restaurant

Took it easy today and got caught up on some housekeeping items around the coach.  For lunch I was looking for some southern comfort food and stumbled onto Bea's Restaurant.  I did not realize it was kind of a buffet, but unlike any buffet either Doreen or I had ever been to before.

Their web site says they have been serving since 1950.  "Bea's is a 4'th generation family owned business in Chattanooga, Tennessee. We've been serving up some great downhome all you can eat fare for 74 years!"

Wednesday's menu included:

  • Fried Chicken
  • Ham slices
  • Pulled Pork BBQ
  • Pinto Beans
  • Whole New Potatoes in Creme Sauce
  • Collard Greens
  • Fire Roasted Corn Salad
  • Cole Slaw
  • Macaroni salad
  • Potato salad
  • Pickled Beets
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Bea's Dinner Rolls
  • Cornbread
  • Peach Cobbler
  • Sweet tea
  • Lemonade
  • Fountain soda
For those who are familiar with the menu, you can request or pass on any of the items they offer for the day.  Since we had never been there, they brought a sampling of the items listed above.

Most of their tables are circular, and the center part rotates
so everyone can share the family style portions

The waitresses continually stopping to check if anything was running low or if we needed anything.  They will keeping bringing the food as long as you desire it! So it is kinds of a buffet only there is no line. You don't even have to get up!  Way too easy to over indulge, like I did with the collard greens LOL!

Nothing else much going on today.  It is still pretty warm here, sunny and 93F,  feels like 100 with the humidity.  Tomorrow we drive north to Athens TN to have lunch with my cousin Gary Cooper that I have not seen since approximately 1977.  Gary's mom Erma and my mom Wilma were sisters.  That's the connection.  Gary was a submariner in the US Navy during Vietnam, I believe.  He also worked for the Burlington Northern railroad.  Will be great to see him!
