9 Aug 2024 - Arrived at Arnold Air Force Base FamCamp Tullahoma TN + Stats

Not many black dots remaining!

Really short travel day today, a whole 81 miles! On travel days like today I always try to call ahead the day before to (1) confirm our reservation to make sure everything is good to go, and (2) to find out if our site is occupied the night before we arrive.  Usually if it is not occupied they will allow you to slip in there earlier than the normal check-in time.  That is especially handy on a day like today.  Check-out at Chattanooga was 1100 hrs and check-in at Arnold AFB FamCamp is 1500 hrs PLUS we shift back to Central Daylight Time!  Well it all worked out.  We drug our feet and did not depart until 1040 hrs, and arrived at 1113 hrs CDT.

The trip was uneventful other than we traveled out of Georgia into Tennessee, then out of Tennessee into Georgia, then out of Georgia into Tennessee again LOL.  It was Interstate just about the whole way.

The check-in process here is a bit different.  You take your trailer to your pre-assigned site in the FamCamp, then after you disconnect and set it up you returned to the check-in building to finish the paperwork.  So I did all that, and then returned to enjoy the afternoon.

The view out our dining room window of the Woods Reservoir

The Arnold Air Force Base FamCamp is situated on the Woods Reservoir created in 1952 when they dammed up the Elk River.  This reservoir occupies 3660 acres and  is owned and operated by the US Air Force and Arnold Engineering Development Center.  In addition to providing the water needed for various test functions carried out on Arnold AFB, it provides recreational opportunities with five public boat ramps, four public fishing piers and many other amenities.  Various boats, pontoons and other water craft are available for rent at the Arnold AFB Outdoor Rec Office.

This FamCamp is very wooded, but the trees are very tall and easy to maneuver.  We had no problems backing in and getting situated.

We grilled out and then after dinner took Liberty for a long walk around the FamCamp including around the reservoir.  This place is full of her nemesis, squirrels!

Tomorrow (Saturday) morning we have a tour reservation at the George Dickel Distillery, which is just north of Tullahoma.  Then back to the RV to tend to Liberty and in the afternoon we will tour the Beechcraft (aircraft) Heritage Museum.  Sunday we have a tour reservation with Jack Daniels Distillery.  Monday Liberty has a spa day at Petsmart!  That is likely about it for here.  We have no peeps here that we are aware!
