30 Jul 2024 - Arrived at Wilson's Riverfront RV Park in Asheville NC + Stats

Wow, definitely way more yellow than black on this map!  This morning we pulled chocks in between rain storms this morning in West Virginia.  Our travels took us out of West Virginia, through Tennessee to  Asheville North Carolina.  The rain followed us, off and on, the entire trip today.  It's too bad as the landscape through the mountains was incredible.  It would have been awesome to see it on a sunny day.

We passed through two tunnels, the East River Mountain Tunnel in Rocky Gap Virginia, and the Big Walker Mountain Tunnel in Wytheville Virginia.  I don't know what it is that is so fascinating about tunnels.  Maybe it is the amazing engineering and massive construction required to complete them.

The rain continued nearly the entire trip, but we did squeeze in a couple pottie stops along the way.

The clouds were right on top of us!

Somewhere near Bristol TN in the midst of the nasty rain there was a severe motor vehicle crash on the northbound Interstate.  Thankfully we were southbound.  We could see traffic backed up for miles and miles northbound.  With the heavy rain and reduced visibility I am surprised there were not more wrecks.

Sort of a neat picture with the varying visibility through the mountains

At 1326 hrs we rolled into Wilson's Riverfront RV Park and got setup quickly.  The sites here are all back-in's, paved and full hook-up 50 amp.  Some back up to the French Broad River, and the others like ours back up to the I-240 off-ramp!

No neighbors yet on our off-door side, but adequate room.

A neighbor on our door side, but good room in between.

Down the middle of our campground is a biking/walking trail.

We are excited that our great friend and military comrade from Georgia Brad Herren and his wife Beth are coming here to visit us.  Originally they had planned to camp with us but since then they have put their camper up for sale so instead they will be spending a night in a nearby motel and spending time with us exploring Asheville!  We might even have a bourbon or two just for old times sake!

While here we plan to see the Biltmore Mansion, a radio museum, Asheville Museum of History, Lexington Glass Works, Woolworths Store Walk, Pinball Museum, Asheville Gem Mine and the Basilica of St Lawrence Deacon and Martyr.  We will be here today (Tuesday the 30th) and will depart Monday 5 August for Chattanooga TN.
