This morning at 0811 hrs we broke camp at Ft Drum NY and headed east and a bit north to our next destination, stop #20 of 42 - Lone Pine Campsites north of Burlington VT. The journey took us across Lake Champlain, which divides New York and Vermont, on a ferry.
We could have driven there by going north or south quite a ways, but the ferry seemed like a no-brainer. It took us right at 4 hours to get to the ferry, including a couple stops.
Riding a ferry with the camper is not new to us as we did this at Galveston TX last year. The fee here is based on total length and number of passengers. Total length of our truck connected to the trailer is 52 ft 9 in so our total cost was $47.65 one way. Once at the ferry it was only 7 minutes before we boarded and just 11 minutes to cross the lake.
Once we deboarded the ferry on the Vermont side it was just 32 minutes before we arrived at the campground, 182 miles total for today not including the distance across Lake Champlain.
The Lone Pine Campsites is huge, approximately 250 campsites. We chose this primarily due to it's proximity to where my Air Force buddy Armand "Hammy" Lambert lives. We will stay here for 5 nights, departing Tuesday 18 June.
Tonight we went over to Hammy and Lorie's house to see them and have some burger's and beers. It was great to see them again. My fail for not taking any pictures! Last time we saw Lorie was in 2016 in Maine when we camped together. Hammy flew into Wisconsin and we fished together with another Air Force buddy Greg Noskowiak in 2019.
Doreen had compiled some possible "to see's" while here and we discussed them with Hammy and Lorie. We will figure something out to see with them tomorrow.
