Today is our last day here at Lone Pine Campsites in Colchester and our last day in Vermont. We worked on the route for tomorrow and part of that process is checking for height clearances such as low bridges, checking for hazmat restrictions such as our propane, and anything else that might cause me to have a bad day! In my research I found a height discrepancy in the bridge at Rumsford Maine. The low clearances POI database showed 13 ft 5 in (our coach is 13 ft 4-1/2 in - that be a NO-GO!) but yet my Garmin RV GPS routed us right across it! I did not go out to the truck and get my Truckers Atlas, another resource, but I did contact Maine DOT and verified we are good to go - Garmin was right and LowClearances.com was wrong. It is really at 15 ft 4 in, so we are golden. Route set, GPS coordinates for the destination documented, good to go.
We needed to make a final grocery run to replenish the fridge and pantry, so in conjunction with that little road trip we planned a stop at "The World's Tallest Filing Cabinet"! Yep, folk, you heard it here first, and it is right here in Burlington VT! I just could not leave here without seeing it. So we plugged in 44.455812, -73.217193 to our GPS and off we went.
And there it is, at the NW corner of Flynn Ave and Champlain Parkway. This work of art was created in 2002 by artist Bren Alvarez, as a comment on bureaucratic delays building the “Southern Connector,” a roadway intended to connect Interstate 89 to downtown Burlington. It consists of 38 drawers of filing cabinets welded together, with each one representing the number of years of paperwork that Alvarez accumulated while working on a local street project. There is apparently questions as to whether it is actually "the tallest filing cabinet on Earth" as there are supposedly others claiming this title. At any rate, it is tall and it is unique and it made our list to see, and here we are... and now you know!!
That is a tough act to follow, but a stop at a local grocery stop was a SCORE as well! We picked up the regular fruits, veggies and other items, but check this out!!
It was like Christmas when I found the Red Hot version. It was like my birthday when I found the Old Bay version. And now this! What will they think of next?!We got back to the campground from our filing cabinet and grocery store run, and I went to work on the pre-departure stuff while Doreen made a batch of salsa. Later, Hammie and Lorie stopped out to say their goodbyes with some delicious Snow Farm Vineyard Rose Red wine and some local IPA beers. We are very thankful for friends like Hammie and Lorie and it was so great to be able to spend a few days with them here seeing the sights and reminiscing about our years in Northern Maine!!
Speaking of Maine, that is where we are headed tomorrow. We will be camping at the Riverbend Campground near Leeds Maine, the same place we stayed in 2016 with Hammie, Lorie and other Air Force buddies we served with at Loring Air Force Base. We won't be stoppin' at Bah Hahbah this go, but I may hafta have me some wicked good lobstah chowda! Ayah!
