Wow! Time is flying right along! We bugged out of Lone Pines Campsites in Burlington VT this morning at 0815 hrs and headed east. We had a little interstate but most of our journey today was Route 2 - two lane, and quite a bit of it was under construction. We had some crappy roads, some newly blacktopped roads and some gravel roads where the paving had already been removed in preparation for resurfacing.
. Needless to say it was slow going. That's OK - more time to soak in the scenery! And we saw some beautiful New England countryside.
Capital building - believe this was Concord NH

We stopped twice along the way for a pottie break. One of those times Doreen spotted an object on the ground and low and behold it was an Andrew Jackson - a $20 bill! If anyone lost it, you can claim it by texting me the serial number. What, your money list is not up to date? Air Force basic trainees from back in my day had to maintain a "money list" - a list of your paper money by serial number! If you were caught with money that was not on your money list you were in big trouble!
You know you are in Maine when you see fields of potatoes!
So we had a good trip today albeit slow. We arrived at Riverbend Campground at 13:28 - 5 hrs 13 minutes after traveling 215 miles.
Later after we were set up our Air Force buddy Ernie Souther came by for a visit. Ernie lives just north of here at Livermore Falls ME. Ernie was a radio operator at the site we were assigned at Loring Air Force Base back in the 70's.
Tonight Doreen and I explored the campground with Liberty. We got a text that our son was on TV at home as they responded to an RV fire with a neighboring department.
Tomorrow afternoon we will meet Ernie again and grab a bite to eat with him likely in Augusta ME. We are here for three nights.
We checked in quickly and then made our way to camp site #88, just across the road from where we stayed in 2016 with our Air Force buddies. We are on an end spot which is nice - plenty of room for Liberty.
Along the perimeter of the campground is the Dead River which empties into the Androscoggin Lake. Last time we were up here we kayaked the river with the group and it was a lot of fun!
