6 May 2024 - Arrived at Little Rock Air Force Base FamCamp

More yeller on the map today!  Stop #11 of 42 and we have arrived at Little Rock Air Force Base FamCamp, a new one for us.  We waved goodbye to our Texas  Alliance friends and departed Mineola right at 0800 hrs this morning.  The drive was uneventful,  We had a short stretch of 2-lane between Mineola and I-30, then we headed eastbound on the interstate to Little Rock.

In Texarkana we were welcomed to Arkansas  and after a bit of construction and a couple pit stops at about 1330 hrs and 278 miles later we rolled into Little Rock Air Force Base.  The line was incredibly long at the Front Gate so we diverted to the commercial/over sized vehicle entrance and were waved right through by a couple of very friendly Security Forces Defenders.

Once on base we were again detoured by construction but before long we found the FamCamp.

So we make reservations in advance for nearly 100% of our stops - nearly.  In this case the Little Rock AFB FamCamp does not take reservation, so it is first come first served.  That complicates things when you are towing a 53 ft long truck/trailer combination.  Especially after driving almost 300 miles I don't like surprises, like "we don't have any spots open" which would require us to seek out a new park and then drive there.  That is not how I roll.  But I felt like taking a chance and we called the FamCamp this morning in route.  The guy was very short with me.  I spoke to him previously and got the same treatment.  I got the sense a site would be available, and it was.  In fact there were many sites open.  Why could he not have just stated that?

So we got to the FamCamp, found a vacant site, unhooked, and leveled;  power, water and sewer connected;  slideouts deployed;  air conditioning on;  satellite up.  Then I took off for the Outdoor Recreation office that manages the FamCamp.  I reported my site number and paid my fee for three nights.  I asked to speak with the manager but he/she was apparently not there.  There is an avenue to provide feedback electronically which I will do, but I would much rather do that eyeball to eyeball.  Ugh.

The FamCamp appears fairly well maintained.  The pads are concrete. It is 50 amp full hookup and some of the sites, like ours, are pull through.  There are several fishing ponds here and a nice handicapped accessible trail.  We have not checked out the bathroom and shower facilities as we do not use them.

We have a long list of things to see here in Little Rock and only two days to see them before we move on to Bull Shoals for some trout fishing, so we won't get through the list.  That makes for a great excuse to come back!!  We also plan to reconnect and have dinner with some dear Alliance friends Mike and Rachel Ellis who live in this area.

That's it for tonight.  Liberty says she is also done for tonight but she is feeling much better!
