This morning we tuned in to some more grandkids sports. Grandson Jon was bowling in the Milwaukee area but we could not watch him live this time. The picture above shows him getting a good luck smooch from our daughter (his mom) Michelle! Jon's total 9 game series was 1950 with a 216.67 average for the weekend. One of his games he bowled a 290, with a strike to start the following game, so that would have been a 300!
Ankeny Grandson Daniel's baseball games were on Game Changer app so we were able to watch him play a couple today live. He had an outstanding weekend at the plate, in the field and on the mound. Daniel is quite an athlete, a natural behind the plate as catcher just like his dad (our son Dan) was. He is a solid fielder playing 3rd and short stop, and he is a talented pitcher with a team role as closer. Daniel tossed the final inning of shutout ball to clench their win in game 1 today. We really enjoy being able to stay in touch with the kids while we travel.
We are sure our grands in Battle Creek Michigan had a busy weekend too as did their mom, our middle daughter Chief Master Sergeant Jennifer Buehner, as it was drill weekend for her. So she was in uniform, on-duty, and taking care of Airmen! I once did the math on how many drill weekend I worked over my Oct 1977 to Aug 2015 Air National Guard career. Our Guardsmen work throughout the week at their civilian jobs and then serve our Nation one weekend a month. It is one hell of a commitment and takes it's toll on families for sure.
This afternoon Doreen and I ventured out to the Fort Sam Houston Commissary to replace our fresh items in the fridge. We also stopped by the Class Six which is the military term for liquor store. They have some great prices and a good selection here, although we left empty handed.
Back at the FamCamp I cleaned the front cap of our coach as it gets blasted with bugs as we travel. Keeping it clean and waxed is a must, but a bit of a challenge here as you are not allowed to wash your coach - with the hose that is. So I used a bucket, a telescopic pole and a wash mitt along with a towel and it came out just fine. Hopefully I can give the entire coach a bath when I get to my sister's on Friday.
This evening we grilled some Iowa pork chops brought from home and enjoyed the beautiful weather outside. After dinner we were greeted by several of the local butterflies who seemed to be very tame and interested in us!
Tomorrow's plan is yet to be determined. We have several places we want to see so we may head downtown.
