As we travel around on our journeys one thing we really enjoy is following our grandkids and their activities. Technology enables us to watch and listen. Our two Ankeny IA grandsons will be playing many baseball games this summer starting soon. The two Wisconsin grandsons are both avid and talented bowlers. Our grandson in Battle Creek MI is an awesome goalie on the high school hockey team and our granddaughter is a great volleyball player. There are apps available for all of those sports to stream them online. For other activities our kids use Facebook Live. So we can still stay connected with them all and still travel around our great Nation!
So today was bowling competition and it just so happens both Wisconsin grandsons participated in the same tournament, so we got to see them both bowl. This was a Facebook Live broadcast and we casted it to our 50" TV in the RV! Almost like being there!
I worked on troubleshooting a minor issue we are having with a couple 12 volt lights on the RV and Doreen worked on some other things. About 1700 hrs a storm front passed through bringing high winds and heavy rain. We had planned on going to see the Oklahoma City Dodgers (AAA) baseball team play but it looked like the weather was going to win. The storm actually passed through quickly and then we had blue sky's, so we headed down to the ballpark.
As we traveled east to get to the ballpark, we actually caught up with the tail end of the storm. But we took our time and the majority of the rain had subsided by the time we parked.
If you've followed our travels last year or before, this area might look familiar. I took this picture to illustrate the storm that had passed off to the east, but it shows part of the canal system that was built in the Bricktown area of Oklahoma City. It is a one-mile canal that connects the north Bricktown area with the Chesapeake Boathouse along the Oklahoma River. If you ever get the chance, it is worth the visit. It is not to the caliber of the Riverwalk in San Antonio TX, but it is really nice. Prior to 1993 this area was a rundown warehouse district that sat dilapidated and underused. Then the City of Oklahoma City constructed the Bricktown Ballpark and now this area is "a lively entertainment district, with repurposed warehouse spaces home to restaurants, piano lounges and chic wine bars. An eclectic mix of shops sell clothing, home decor and specialty food items like gourmet condiments and handmade chocolate. The Bricktown Water Taxi takes riders along the Bricktown Canal for tours and dinner cruises." (Google) So it is a pleasure to visit this area and oh by the way, the Oklahoma City Dodgers happened to be in town!!
So after the storm we decided to come on down to the game. We arrived in plenty of time to get our tickets and some refreshments. The guy at the ticket counter commented on my "Retired Air Force" sweatshirt and suggested I stop in to the Guest Services desk for a complimentary OKC Dodgers hat.
It was Girl Scout night and they were here in force!! They paraded around the field and then gathered in the outfield as one of them threw out the first pitch, and several of them led us in the National Anthem.
We watched some great early season AAA baseball. OKC left 7 on base but they displayed some tough defense and solid pitching. They won the game 4-3
Tomorrow is our last day here. We will fuel the truck and make preparations to depart until about 1400 hrs when everything stops and we watch the Women's NCAA tournament championship game between Iowa and South Carolina. SC is undefeated so it will undoubtedly be a very good game.
