4 Apr 2024 - Lunch with John Kimball

This morning we got a few things done around here and then we headed off base in Wichita to meet our friend John Kimball for lunch.  John and I have been friends for years.  John served in the Kansas Air National Guard in communications while I served in the Iowa Air National Guard also in communications.  John went on to become the Kansas State Command Chief and I became the State Command Chief for Iowa.  John actually taught my Command Chief course in San Antonio TX May 2007 after I returned from Iraq.  He is an Afghanistan war veteran also.

John and I have maintained close contact since I retired and have been traveling with our RV as he also travels and camps with his RV.  We have made McConnell AFB an annual stop in the past few years and we usually reconnect over a meal and a cold beer or two!  Today we met at BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse for lunch.  John and I both had a couple of their Porter's which is a dark beer, and Doreen had a Blue Raspberry Candy Rush.  Although after ordering it she realized it was non-alcoholic, she said it was still very good!  We all had great meals and really enjoyed our conversations.

After lunch we fueled the truck and restocked groceries a bit before we move on to Oklahoma City tomorrow.  Back at the campground I drained and flush tanks and stowed the hoses like I always do and then enjoyed some of the blue skies and sunshine for a change.  Liberty enjoyed multiple trips around the pond before crashing for the evening on the couch. John brought his RV out and unwinterized/sanitized the water system in preparation for this season's camping.

.  So this year's stop at McConnell AFB was a short one, we thoroughly enjoyed camping here and seeing John again.  Tomorrow we pull chocks and head south about 175 miles to Mustang Run RV Park in Oklahoma City.  We will be there for three nights.
